The Korean men's 800m relay team, comprised of the 'golden generation', unfortunately missed out on winning the World Aquatics Championships by 0.1 seconds.

The Korean team, consisting of Hwang Seon-woo (21), Kim Woo-min (23), Yang Jae-hoon (26, Gangwon Provincial Office), and Lee Ho-jun (23, Jeju City Hall), competed at the 2024 International Aquatics Federation World Championships held at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar, on the 17th (Korean time). In the men's 800m relay finals at the swimming championships, he recorded a time of 7 minutes 01.94 seconds, 0.1 seconds behind China (7 minutes 01.84 seconds) and took second place. The United States (7 minutes 02.08 seconds) took the bronze medal.

The 7:01.94 recorded by Korea on this day was 0.21 seconds slower than the Korean and Asian record of 7:01.73 set at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year.

Although they lost the gold medal to China by a narrow margin, the 'Dream Team' set a new milestone by winning Korea's first medal in the World Championships team competition.

Korean swimming had never succeeded in winning a team event until the previous competition. The Korea Swimming Federation has begun to produce good results by intensively fostering this sport from 2022.

He increased his chances by placing 6th (7:06.93) at the 2022 Budapest Games and 6th (7:04.07) at the 2023 Fukuoka Games. He also achieved a perfect race at the Hangzhou Asian Games in September last year, making him the first Korean in 14 years. and broke the Asian record and won the first team gold medal in the Asian Games. And with great momentum, they even won a World Championships team event medal at the Doha Games.

The silver medal in the 800m relay is the fifth medal won by Korea in this competition.

Previously, Kim Woo-min won the men's 400m freestyle, and Hwang Sun-woo took the top spot in the men's 200m freestyle. In diving, bronze medals were added in the women's 3m springboard (Kim Su-ji) and the mixed synchro 3m springboard (Kim Su-ji and Lee Jae-kyung).
